1. What is Collagen?
Collagen is a group of naturally occurring proteins found only in living organisms. It is the main component of our connective tissue, forming 30% of our body and over 75% of our skin protein content.
Collagen connects and supports bodily tissues and is responsible, among others, for skin’s firmness, strength, resilience and elasticity. The sudden or gradual loss of collagen in our body is responsible for degradation that leads to the ageing process.
2. What is Biologically Active Natural Collagen?
Natural Collagen is a biologically active trans-dermal protein gel extracted from freshwater fish.
3. What makes Natural Collagen so unique?
Unlike for example synthetic or bovine collagen’s, KOLAGENA’s Natural Collagen is the first in the world biologically active collagen that retains a triple helix structure until it is absorbed by all the layers of the skin.
Extracted from freshwater fish, it has a small enough molecular structure to effectively integrate itself into the extracellular space via external application, fighting not only the effects but also the causes of ageing.
4. Why is Natural Collagen so Expensive?
The delicate extraction process is done entirely by hand to ensure the collagen molecule remains completely intact. The special gel is the first in the world bioactive protein that retains its biological triple helix structure outside of a living organism.
The unique formula is a living protein with an amino acid structure identical to human collagen chains. It is for these reasons that KOLAGENA’s Natural Collagen is perfectly compatible with our collagen and due to its triple helix structure capable of replenishing the skin with the ongoing deficiency of collagen.
5. What is Elastin- (one of the product's ingredients)?
Elastin is a protein found in the connective tissue. Elastic in nature, it allows many tissues in the body to resume their shape after stretching or contracting. The elastin used in Natural Collagen is extracted from freshwater fish and is biologically active.
6. How much of pure collagen is there precisely in our Natural Collagen?
This question is a little tricky to answer as biochemists calculate collagen by the amount of hydroxyproline in ug.cm3. The dry preparation contains 89.9% protein substances, including 8.7% elastin contents, however the dry mass does not reflect the percentage of collagen in the preparation.
The more appropriate answer is: the amount of collagen contained in Natural Collagen is the maximum amount possible for it to be absorbed by the external layer of epidermis.
7. What is the difference between fish and bovine collagen?
Bovine collagen is extracted from skins of cattle. It is biologically inactive and too large (on a molecular level) to be able to penetrate the epidermis. Further, bovine collagen has a completely different biological structure to that of human collagen chains, making it incompatible with human collagen and potentially allergenic.
Fish collagen on the other hand, especially the freshwater carp used in Natural Collagen has an identical amino acid structure to human collagen. Not only that, KOLAGENA’s collagen retains the ‘triple helix' structure outside of the living organism, until it is applied and absorbed by the skin.
8. When will I see results? Can I have a sample?
In a sample packet, the product would not maintain its integrity and provide any results. The true benefit of Natural Collagen comes from systematic, long term use. Short term results will be apparent after 2-3 weeks of using the product, and the more permanent long term results will be apparent within 2-3 months.
9. What is the shelf life of Natural Collagen?
The “best before date”, as the manufacturer determines it, is generally set at 12 months from the production/filtration date. The shelf life of Natural Collagen is defined as the time that the product retains its full rejuvenating capacity. It is proven that product as old as 3 years and stored at the temperature less than 28ºC is still fully intact.
10. How long does each bottle of Natural Collagen last?
Our estimates are based on personal use and customer feedback of using the product twice a day, on face, neck and décolletage area:
- 50ml approximately 2-3 months of usage
- 100ml approximately 4-5 months of usage
- 200ml approximately 6-7 months of usage
11. When should I refrain from using Natural Collagen?
It is not recommended to use Natural Collagen if:
- Suffering from one of the group of collagen disorders e.g. sclerodermia and chronic rheumatoid disorders
- Suffering from eczema with a protein allergy background
- Allergic to fish protein
- When undertaking chemotherapy, radiation therapy or phototherapy for psoriasis
- In cases of kidney dialysis
- On a low protein diet
- Suffering from collagenosis (connective tissue disease)
Please contact your doctor if you are not sure or have any concerns.
12. How do I apply Natural Collagen?
Natural Collagen should be applied on clean, moist skin, 2-3 times a day. Use a small amount (fingertip size) and gently apply to the skin, spreading evenly across the desired area. Leave to absorb. Do not rinse out.
Do not apply immediately after the usage of harsh cosmetics or skin cleansers. Collagen is a protein that will break down in the presence of acids contained in strong cleansers and other tonics.
Following proper application, one may experience a tightening sensation on the skin. This is a normal and desirable effect. For applications on other parts of the body please click here
13. Will my skin become dependant on collagen over long term use?
The quick answer is NO. It is not so much about the support from the outside, but rather an awakening of the fibroblasts on the inside; stimulating them to produce their own collagen.
Research has shown an increase in skin tissue after about 100 days of non-invasive topical collagen application. You will also find that regular, long term use of Natural Collagen will allow you to reduce the number of applications per day and still retain the same beneficial effects.
14. Is it crucial to store collagen bellow 28°C
